Knuckle Sandwich

possibly the first turnbased rpg (seemingly?) going into explicitly microgame compilation territory, really excited to finally see the paper mario/undertale battle minigames taken to their logical conclusions. also music team is insanely stacked with a ton of people from the digifu scene, you love to see it

I generally find most RPG battles ultra dull where you just spam your best moves as you menu through powers, with the occasional gimmick tossed your way. At least Super Mario RPG let you have timed hits so you have a bit more gameplay within them.

Really happy to see Undertale's bullet-hell-styled battles sort of be expanded on here. Makes these games feel a lot more alive rather than just summoning the same flash animation again and again.

Just beat the game - it's okay, solid 3/5 for me. There was definitely a lot of love put into this game.
The art style and presentation is sick. However, I felt like some of the mini-games were a bit obnoxious. The controls for some of the shoot 'em up ones didn't feel good; I'm willing to bet this was an intentional decision. Plus I didn't have a good grasp on what the Luck and Charisma stat really did.

Other than that, it was surprisingly-solid. Some of these indie RPGs can be a bit unpolished or janky, but Knuckle Sandwich was not one of them.
