Hotel Mario is a puzzle/platformer game who takes place in hotels. The general goal in each stage is to close all the doors on every floor. However, various enemies will interfere and reopen them at times. Elevators are needed to travel between floors. The first six hotels have ten stages, whilst the seventh has fifteen.

Title
Honestly not the worst Mario game, and it has a lot of things going for it. Every stage is unique, with different stage effects and they all require different gameplay strategies, there's a great variety of enemies that all act in their own ways, and the basic gameplay itself is perfectly fine. The issues with this lie in its somewhat poor level design and the fact that the later stages of each hotel become absolutely frustrating clusterfucks of enemy bombardment and get nearly impossible to beat. I never even managed to make it to a boss fight in any of the hotels (just glad there's a level select cheat).

It honestly has some decent potential, though. I think it gets its dreadful reputation mostly from its notoriety of existing alongside the genuinely bad Zelda CDi games as well as its legendarily poor (but ironically humorous) animated cutscenes. It isn't a GOOD game in the end, but it's hardly terrible and is genuinely okay for small portions, it just needed a lot more refinement and some better design choices and it could have been a really solid Mario title.
