I’m sure this game is fine but I wish I could permanently exclude gacha from my view. No matter how good this is gacha always generates fomo for me and I have the self-control not to indulge but it makes me pissed at progression systems and permanent inability to actually be a completionist.

Majority of the gacha are junk light cones unless your aiming for a specific character, and even then, you arn't technically missing out if you don’t get them during the warp event, that’s just when the % are boosted very high.
Or you can just wait a while because the game still gives you more characters than I know what to with in game currency alone. I haven't come close to throwing a penny at this game in the 150 hrs I’ve played tbh =\
the combat is addicting of course. But goddamn you have to listen to paragraph after paragraph of bad dialog and exposition every 4 steps you take, and all side quests boil down to a generic npc has some contrived boring problem that a toddler could solve. You can really feel how much they pad out the fact that they're just trying to get you hooked on gacha and collecting. Some of the boss fights are actually fun and challenging but it's so few and far between it makes me wonder if it's worth the price tag.
Here's the problem: For new players, having limited-time events that are gated behind story progress makes people impatient to get the story over with, even if they like the story. I'm typically a "stop and smell the roses" type of player, and I do read most of the dialogue and enjoy the story for the most part, but I cut off the voice lines the majority of the time, and get really annoyed when I have to wait for a character to turn around before I hit next.
The events aren't limited though, just some extra rewards are limited. All events just end up in the "Conventional Memoir" section of the travel log. I'm still getting through Aetherium Wars myself.
i don't get people like you whatsoever, if you personally dislike the very concept of gacha then just don't play it. this is basically just a live service JRPG.
I think Penacony alone amps up my rating for this game, so far the best story, atmosphere, art direction and just better in every sense than the other planets
