Gacha RPG

Gacha RPGs are a type of RPG (varying from turn-based RPG, tactical RPG or action RPG) most commonly found on mobile platforms that involves the player collecting monsters or heroes and assembling a group to send into battle. These are acquired through a "gacha" lootbox mechanic which includes various rarities, usually ranging from 1 star (common) to 5 star (ultra rare/legendary). Units gain experience when doing battles, but also most gacha games feature a feeding system that allows you to sacrifice duplicates in order to boost up other units, eventually allowing to raise their star level with other necessary requirements.

Gacha RPGs which usually feature equipment (or gear/runes) that improve some attributes of your units also often come with their own sets of rarities. The arena is usually the place where you face other players with their preset group of defenses, featuring some leaderboards and prizes for the best ranking players. The main gameplay is most of the time single player (PvE), facing multiple consecutive batches of enemies to progress through the game. Gacha RPGs cannot be completed quickly and involve lots of grinding over time.

This genre has been extremely successful especially in the Asia region, with Brave Frontier [ブレイブフロンティア], Summoners War and Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius [ファイナルファンタジー ブレイブエクスヴィアス] being some of its most famous titles.
