A 2D hack-and-slash platformer that’s both accessible and engaging; Hollow Knight starts off easy whilst getting progressively more challenging as you explore its labyrinth underground kingdom. The game’s combat system - whilst not the deepest - is surprisingly rich, with different spells, weapons and attacks to choose from, all with their own trade-offs. The game's difficulty is famous but forgiving (with appropriately-spaced checkpoints, opportunities to recover lost loot, avoid troublesome mini-bosses, etc), and always fair - I never faced a challenge that felt unmanageable or like the game hadn’t prepared me for; and the few times I did, the answer was typically to just continue journeying elsewhere and return once I felt upgraded enough to overcome it.
The adorable characters are simple (maybe a bit one-dimensional), but well-written (and there's more to some of them than meets the eye 👀). The story is nothing mind-blowing, but the mystery & surprises are intriguing enough to keep you invested.
If I were to describe this game in one word, it would be... "enchanting"; the charming artstyle, haunting music and wondrous world are hard not to be enamoured by. This is a timeless, lovingly-crafted game that will be enjoyed by all ages.

Kinda impressive to see a game like this have a comparable amount of ratings to a mammoth such as RDR2, shame literally nobody knows this game anywhere I go or they dismiss it as some lame sidescroller...
Was enjoyable to see how with each year more friends and people in interned are amazed by this game. At first it was just mundane souls-copying platformer and now there's 300,000 reviews in steam HOLY FUCK. (familiar with it from 2018)
I could probably write a long angry essay about things I dislike about this game, particularly regarding the backtracking and the money system... But in the end, I find it really hard to dislike it, it was so clearly a labour of love for the developers. The moment I realised that Zote was actually gonna list every single one of his 57 precepts, I just couldn't help but smile.
Game just gets better and better and better and better and better and better. You continue to conquer bosses that at first try seem to be impossible. Eventually you become so good you are some unkillable god bug lookin thing slaying demons and its so frickin cool and I love it so much please play this game
