Enter the Gungeon

this is a very well-conceived and challenging game with a lot of content to master. can be frustrating at times

nuclear throne may not have that much content in comparison but it just feels better to play imo. i made the mistake of expecting gungeon to be more fast-paced than it actually is which kinda ruined the game for me

i really like this game but the super endgame shit is pissing me off with how convoluted it is (the paradox gunslinger run - if you forget the bullet that can kill the past your run ends)

turbo mode elevates this from great to incredible

i don't understand why people play this when nuclear throne exists

Yeah, doesn't really improve much at all compared to Nuclear Throne. That game is so absurdly fast paced at times it almost feels overwhelming (especially level 5 onwards). Gungeon by comparison is kind of a slog. There's a lot of downtime in-between populated rooms that just doesn't exist in NT. Its pacing is felt tenfold on account that its a roguelike, meaning you interact with by far the easiest and most boring zones the most. I feel like I can speed through the more tedious Nuclear Throne areas much more efficiently.

The guns may be less diverse than in Gungeon, but Nuclear Throne's combat is so much more impactful and satisfying than any encounter you can find in the former. Weapon management is a nightmare too. There's no limit to the amount of weapons you can hold here, so you spend so much goddamn time cycling through all of your held weapons. Nuclear Throne has a hard 2-weapon limit and switching weapons is more of a toggle. There is a button that kind of works like this in gungeon, but its not nearly as fast or as streamlined like in Nuclear Throne.

Hell, even taking into the account the levels of weapon diversity between the two games, it all feels aesthetic in Gungeon. You may be shooting a gun that shoots out a bunch of miniature guns, a giant magless 800 round supersoaker, or a weyland-yutani pulse rifle with a grenade launcher attachment but their impact and damage feel pretty much the same.

nuclear throne is better but this is still a lot of fun. i think it can drag on a bit, but unlocking weird secret stuff in this game is pretty satisfying. i could say the same with nuclear throne tho
