This game could've benefited a lot from being a bit more open ended and less of a linear action-adventure, lite-RPG. Still, it's a relaxing game and a nice oddity from the late-90s / early 2000s era of gaming: an era defined by risk taking and bold experimentation (as made evident by a plethora of other 64DD / GameCube games - look no further than Doshin the Giant[巨人のドシン1] for a good example).
You just don't see game's like this being made anymore.
