This game has a sort of overreliance on the combat that doesn't really fit your character (like other have said, playing as a cop who beats homeless people to death with 2x4's is kinda weird) but this game's atmosphere is unmatched.
Finally got to play this and it's... peculiar. It's also a bit rough but then I get this was a launch title for the Xbox 360, so it's expected.
The melee combat is hit or miss (get it?). However, when I think about it, I don't there was a game before which used it in such a tense context, at least not in this particular way. The enemy AI is also impressive for its time, since it reacts very accurately to what's going on all around. I just love chasing hobos before they get to pick up another weapon.
The level design is too linear for its own sake, and I really hated finding locked doors only to realise the item for opening them is... literally next to them. Just why, why not just leave it open. This kind of mechanic only makes sense if you have to leave to area, or at least the room. Some gameplay choices were just baffling. Probably the most confusing one was the forensic tools, which is just rote and you never actually have to use them in a clever way. Seems like a waste of potential.
Really want to play the second game, but I don't have an Xbox 360 or PS3 right now. Perhaps I'll use an emulator, I don't know.
