There's several levels of "Roguelite" progression and depending on which, the level of difficulty can vary greatly. Children of Morta is not an easy game by itself, but it does feature the easiest progression system and it's quite similar to the one found in Rogue Legacy. You go on a dungeon run and you get to find various items (runes, relics, charms and whatnot), and those you do not keep after you die (and you will die!), but however you do accumulate gold in that run which you will keep after your death. The gold can be used to upgrade your character, from health, attack, agility and so on. So all in all, the more you play, the stronger you get and the hard will eventually not be so hard.
Children of Morta's gameplay is with a top down view, something like Binding of Isaac or 2D Zelda. It's a little typical Action RPG with Melee or Ranged characters and each with their own special abilities and features. Not totally groundbreaking in that sense, but the game does feature a family system that is pretty cool. The 6 playable characters all share the same upgrades, and when you reach a certain with each one of them, it will boost the other family members in a specific area. So the game really incites you to play with all 6 characters, as you will be boosting everyone by playing with different ones. Sticking with just one character is definitely not the optimal strategy, and eventually a corruption system happens where they lose maximum HP if you don't let them rest enough.
The dungeons can be pretty long (20-30 minutes), but once it is cleared you don't have to re-do it again. The bosses themselves are pretty hard and kinda frustrating to die to after such a long run, but with a few tries you eventually find out their weaknesses and manage to pull through along with the several upgrades you got from doing your previous runs. The game is fun but kinda gets repetitive after a while, I had a hard time playing this game non-stop as I could only do it in short doses. Still pretty good and I enjoy this progression system, it's not quite as good as Rogue Legacy (that game gave me an addictive rush, not quite so here), but overall there's not much flaws in there and it's got pretty good art style to boot. Definitely worth a try.
