I bought this in the "Pawsome pack" which includes the first and second game. At the time I was looking for something very light hearted and chill but with the action RPG formula. The kind of game you can phase out while playing, and this definitely delivered.
Obviously, there is a specific art style and game play that works really well for Cat Quest. I just wish the world you play in was a bit bigger… although not too much bigger because there is no concept of fast travel.
It played very smoothly on the Switch and the simple mechanics were challenging at times but never really frustrating. The shorter game play through is by design so that you can play it in “Mew game” mode that allows you to turn on more difficult challenge: such as limiting your number of lives or even playing naked. Completing the game in these modes will give you special items. I'm not up for that kind of challenge.
Overall, the game mechanics were too simple to keep me from sinking more hours into it, but I look forward to playing Cat Quest 2 when I get the same itch for this kind of game again.
