"as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform." I can't find the exact article anymore, of course, but others have echoed this quote. He's being very blunt here. In other articles and the one I saw he also said, again bluntly, that's it's entirely in Sony's hands and that's why he isn't allowed to comment much on it.
It's like Miyazaki had a range of similar but unrelated interests (Beserk, OoT/MM, Gothic architecture, King's Field, Castlevania, Ico, SoTC and eastern mythology & western folklore) and was able to form a bridge that harmonized all of his interests and fully realized his artistic vision.
Still the best FromSoft game, and it's not particularly close, even for as great as all their output has been besides DS3. It really is a sickening joke that this of all their games is the one relegated to chugging on the PS4.
or sekiro... besides ds2, all of their games post demon souls are s tier. i think all of them are pretty consistently enjoyable, i don't think any of their games are suuuper high above one another. If you were to make that argument about old hunters specifically, maybe i could get behind that, since this game wouldn't be anywhere near a 4.5 if old hunters didn't exist. maybe like 3.9 tops
I feel like the main reason people are inclined to single this one out as the best is because of its exclusivity and one-off nature. Down to the nit & gritty of it it doesn't do much the Souls games don't and IMO Elden Ring is objectively more ambitious and a technical marvel. I love it I just think it's kinda overrated
^ BB is far from perfect, just like the other games. What makes it standout is it's an innovative and artistic masterpiece, again, just like the other games.
Difference here is BB presents an entirely different aesthetic to the other Souls games which are medieval fantasy, so I'm inclined to agree with op. Mechanically it's nowhere near as ambitious as Elden Ring or Dark Souls even.
Mechanically, i like it slightly more tbh... I think bloodborne presents a quality over quantity kind of weapon pool, all of the trick weapons are really cool and fun to use. That's not to say there aren't any cool weapons in dark souls/elden ring though. I know this gets brought up over and over again but the entire blood vials system and not being able to rest at lamps make this game such a pain in the ass to play sometimes to the point where I don't see how anyone can think it's perfect
Outside of trick weapons and its aesthetic i don't think there's much that bloodborne has over from's other games that warrant it a 4 point fucking 53 on this site. It has some of the lamest and most forgettable bosses in their catalog (outside of their visual designs), none of which really go above being a 7/10 fight. Old hunters, however, is near perfect and almost makes the base game look kinda mid in comparison
