I didnt enjoy this one as much as i expected. The art direction and atmosphere are top notch, but i found the gameplay to be repetitive and start to grow tired of it, maybe i played too many metroidvanias lol. Its a decent game though, just not top tier metroidvania caliber.
Such a fiiiiiine game, better than the first. The levels are brilliantly structured and the visual design is top notch. I could only find some minor inconveniences:
• The final boss is too easy, so much that I thought I was missing an extra phase or an additional area, kind of what happens in Bloodstained. Turns out... no? It really is that easy? Quite underwhelming. Most other bosses are really easy as well, as cool as they are. None of them (except Eviterno) took me more than three tries.
• The rosary beads/favours system is not very deep. In Hollow Knight, for example, exchaging one charm for another always feels like a sacrifice. Here, it doesn't make much of a difference.
• Some quests are not very rewarding, such as the 33 angels thing. Spoiler: You just get a few favours for the altarpiece. I was expecting something more worthy of the task, for which I spent a few hours revising the whole map before the end. It's the same for the cursed letter quest, for which I had to use a guide on the second step, since there was no way I could remember the exact spot where THAT happened and the description could be pretty much anywhere in the game. A pit on a seemingly abandoned, sacred place? The whole game looks like that!
Bah, but this is only a inconvenient if you're trying a completionist run like I did. Other than this, an excellent game.
The game has more options for combat, but it's shorter, easier and just overall weaker than the first. The color palette is also off. Why is it so blue? Oh, and also the atmosphere is subpar in this one, just because the first one exists, basically. It's just lighter and it feels overall really more "gamey" compared to the first instalment. I can't figure out why many people say it's better than the first one. It's not. It just feels like they put less effort on this one. Still a good game, but the first one is legendary.
