Be Funny Now!

Two key aspects of Jacksfilms that I reckon have kept him enduring up to this point are his innovation and awareness of his community: ever since I first subscribed to him back in 2013 when he was making sardonic parody videos, he's grown to now be known for moulding his ideas around active banter from his fanbase. Whether it's a podcast based around their in-joke that his wife is significantly funnier than him or asking them to re-edit his greenscreen footage into crazy short films, a lot of the shit he throws at the wall sticks thanks to their willingness to play along. However, this leaves the rest falling to the floor with a noticeably louder thump.
Taking the bones of his YIAY series - really just replying to a prompt with a funny answer - and sticking it onto a game seemed like a no-brainer. In fact, this already happened when he successfully Kickstarted YIAY: The Board Game (which I spent an embarrassing amount of money on the deluxe version of only to have played it maybe once in my lifetime so far - it's quite fun though). But after months of hinting at an interest in trying video game development, Be Funny Now! was the real end result he was after. This time a free online game for both mobile and PC with a timely battle royale-inspired minigame included, it was much more accessible for anyone outside of his immediate fandom this time. Reaching wider was indeed Jack's mission statement and he made it clear right off the bat how determined he was to get this game so massive.
Even with the odds stacked against him, I was rooting for him and I honestly thought this was a cool idea; both the free aspect and the cute little avatars (a big source of scrutiny ever since the announcement, but I never minded them that much) paired with the simple concept seemed like a fair entry point for newbies. Only a year on though, that outsider traction never happened - even Jack's admitted as much to his disappointment.
