Really just peerless art design and animation carries it through, though just about every other aspect from voice-acting - professional with a smattering of standout unconventional performances - to the weird but earnest story to the underlying game and level design is workable but flawed. The overall effect is that the game feels like it could be about half its length and only be much improved for it. Redeemed by an overall sense of scrappy earnestness.
