It must be great to have lived in some of the most interesting cities on earth. I'm actually planning to learn Portuguese and Spanish since my work is focused on the Latin American financial industry. I hope you're doing well there! P.s. I'm glad that you got to watch Norte and are one of those who liked it :D Needless to say I'm a big Lav Diaz fan.
Hey man, thanks for the add. The image you mentioned is a still from a 1999 Japanese film called Hazy Life by Nobuhiro Yamashit. It's quite obscure here on RYM though, but it's a lovely film
Yeah I guess it would be fair to say Akerman and the Dardenne brothers are pretty much THE names, along with Fabrice du Welz, Olivier Smolders, Bouli Lanners and maybe Marion Hansel, when it comes to French Belgian cinema.
To be honest (although I love Akerman and Dardenne and Du Welz), I'm not that much of an expert regarding my own country's film export :) BUT they are some which I have seen (or want to see) and I would be glad to share them with you.
THE classic I guess would be the 1971 Les Levres Rouges by Harry Kümel, other than that there are some notable Flemish Belgian (dutch language) directors like André Delvaux, Peter Brosens, Fien Troch, Raoul Servais, Felix van Groeningen, Emile Degelin and Robin Pront, maybe Koen Mortier. And besides that there's some stuff like Meeuwen Sterven in de Haven (1955), Brussels By Night (1983) (dutch), Small Gods (2007) (dutch) and L'étrange Couleur des Larmes de Ton Corps (2013)
And if you're into some silent Belgian flicks, check out: Henri Storck, Charles de Keukeleire and La Perle by Henri D'Ursel.

So... I guess that's about it ;)
btw, I'm from the dutch language community
