The rating system used to bother me a bit too- hence why I have a 'needs re-rating' tag on so many things- but its got to the point where I just instinctively know what to rate something when i hear it.
I've found that writing a short review for everything tends to stop me thinking about my ratings too much as well. Reminds me what I actually thought of it
I guess my ratings are based solely on how much enjoyment I get from what I'm hearing, with a few exceptions. So enjoying and judging are the same thing for me, which makes rating things rather easy.
I know what you mean about emotion though- that has, on many occasions, massively distorted my view of albums. It made me love Bloc Party's first two albums for a while there- I still like them but I didn't realise how much of it was all in my head...Now I only try to rate things when I'm not feeling a lot and not thinking much- mornings and at around 9pm
It's actually just excerpts from Sagan auto-tuned. There's a guest spot by Stephen Hawking in the song, too. Obviously, Sagan wasn't actually involved, but for some reason it's credited to him. Cool song, actually, though, plus it's Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking, so the "lyrics" are awesome.
I'll be slowly acquiring everything I don't already have on your impressive jazz list.
And you destroyed your beautiful ratings curve =[

"is that a new lighter?"
