I'm reading JR right now, and it's easily up there with the Recognitions, which is a five of five novel for me.

I find Underworld to be a better book. It's written in a more traditionally good style than White Noise, and the prologue is amazing.

I do indeed mean the great talent of ETA Hoffman, whose work I hold rather significant admiration for, as evidenced in my speaking ill of even Kafka to praise him. On the subject of Kafka, have you read The Castle? I think its superiority to The Trial almost objective. I hear good things of the short works, though I've a peculiar prejudice towards the novel as my favorite literary medium and haven't given time to exploring, but will, soon enough
