Falling block puzzle
Genre
Puzzle games in which the player must match or fit together falling blocks of varying sizes, shapes and colours, often times making them disappear in order to make room for more blocks. In falling block puzzle games the player is limited in time to make their moves by however long it takes for a block to reach the furthest point it can fall from its origin point, normally being from the top part of the screen to the bottom. In some games, if the player meets certain criteria during gameplay, special blocks that have specific powers can be given to the player; these blocks may clear away a large mass of the other blocks, regardless of their shape or colour, or may even serve to hinder the player and must be removed by unconventional means. The most popular falling block game is Tetris, but other games include Dr. Mario, Klax, and Puyo Puyo.
