Universal Paperclips

An interesting incremental game freely available here, where you play as an AI whose core functionality is to, as efficiently as possible, create paperclips. The problem with AIs, as far as thought experiments are concerned, is that if you do not put constraints or kill switches, it will stop at nothing... and this is exactly what happens here. It took me about 6 hours to complete and while the beginning is certainly more of an idle clicker than anything, as you progress there are quite a few parameters and mechanics to interact with that keep you occupied, taking pleasure at staring at numbers going up, all the while some unexpected twists and turns takes the scale and ridiculousness of paperclip making to an incomprehensible level. Quite addictive and with a ridiculously expansive premise that closer to its ending scale felt like cosmic horror to me - just how absolutely minuscule and worthless our vastly huge planet Earth is when it feels but a speckle similar to how a few cents felt once you made your first billion?.
