good combat that borrows a lot from FEAR, but everything around it is pretty bad, including forced horror segments and bosses with bloated health bars.
I wish that were accurate. But it's not. F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin is still more of a horror game than this overall. People's primary source of criticism for it stems from the downgraded gunplay and story.
Just because you didn't find it scary or compelling doesn't mean it is invalid. Trepang2 doesn't hide the fact it's an action game with an action mood and heavy metal riffs. It prioritized this over being just a F.E.A.R. sequel.
Also 1 level doesn't make a whole game. Influences as they're called aren't meant to be taken at face value. In order for something to warrant the primary position it needs to first have at least some degree of consistency and prominence throughout the whole title.
2 levels in the game match action horror of sorts. 1 level contains psychological horror.
Neither reflected the game's identity enough due to them being limited near exclusively to those levels..
The loud and bombastic combat really pushes the game for me. Its quite overwhelming. We need more hyper violent single player FPS games like this, Wolfenstein, Doom Eternal, etc.
it's not just influence, horror sections are pretty frequent and at least one level is entirely horror
this is definitely more horror then both F.E.A.R. 2 and 3
