So apparently, the studio who made this is made up of former Dice devs who worked on Mirror's Edge and Battlefield. It makes a lot of sense from the outside looking in and has me excited to give it a try. Dice used to make some bangers.
Yeah my big takeaway from this game when the first betas were being run was the striking similarity to the frostbite engine. The destruction, map design, art direction, even the performance is eerily similar feeling.
Team multiplayer is so underrated here, the most fun I've had with competitive fps. The skill ceiling is incredibly high, your contributions feel like they matter, and you always making interesting decisions. Fight, flight, going for the objective, or healing a teammate. Each of these can be approached in numerous ways. A far cry from the twitch shooters where you feel like a headless chicken blindly shooting at anything that moves or the games that just funnel everyone into 3 lanes which make every match feel the same.
I am not down with the aesthetic and game show theme one bit. Makes me think of RGB gaming keyboards and esports way too dang much. The gameplay is pretty cool and the destruction is super impressive, but this ultra sanitized, bloodless hunger games thing its got going on is so lame
