I have a love-hate relationship with Super Mario Maker 2. On one hand, it added a ton of new features and quality of life enhancements. On the other hand, making levels, one of the main focuses of the game, just feels overall less fun.
The Wii U was the perfect console for the original Mario Maker. The gamepad allowed them to add so many fun things. You could mess around with the interface, play a fly swatting game, as well as shake objects to find variants. In SMM2, all of this is basically gone. I get why, but it's still disappointing. Having submenus instead of shaking objects also ruins the fun of trying new things.

basically the wii u game but with like. way more players so there's an even bigger ratio of shitty levels made by children. HOWEVER, making levels is still a lot of fun, the campaign is nice and when you do find a good level it is usually REALLY good. the online sucks tho lol

A mixed bag by virtue of user generated content
Did I have fun with this game? Yes. this game is awesome and I would suggest you get it on one condition: you don't mind searching for a bit to find stuff you actually want to play. They will not be all good levels, as well as the new building system of having to actually go to undocked gamepad or build on the tv, it just wasn't really made to be able to transport. However when you find a good super world or good creator expect to have a blast with this game.

    It was a good enough expansion but I still prefer the first because making levels felt better. The UI on this one does not work for me and Switch touchscreen sucks by comparison.

    i can't stop playing this. 90% of levels are terrible but i just keep playing. but when the levels are good they are so good. especially the puzzle levels. then i make my own levels and half the time i feel the need to make them terrible intentionally. human nature is weird
