i'm not really a Review Person, but i think a fair number of people who come across this game are seeing the title and assuming it's just like a quirky joke project or something so i feel obliged to leave a little note here that like 5 people will probably ever read. it's not a joke! it's good! like maybe even really good! i mean yeah, it is literally a role-playing game starring animals, and some of those animals are lesbians, and they may or not go super at some point(?), and if that's not your thing then this is definitely not going to be your thing, but SLARPG has a lot of depth to it. i can tell that a lot of love and care went into the world and its characters and all their interactions, and while i didn't cry or anything i was sad to say goodbye to this game when i finished it after ~15 hours. it's the type of game that had me re-exploring areas and talking to characters repeatedly in different scenarios to try and find all the extra dialogue and hidden jokes. as for how it plays, i've never been huge on rpgs, but in my limited experience i felt like the mechanics presented here were the right balance of "easy enough to not feel like a chore" vs "complex enough that you can actually strategize for different scenarios." the art is gorgeous, the writing is really sweet, and i was not prepared for how fun and at times genuinely moving the soundtrack would be. looking at the game on paper i guess there are a couple of weird elements, like how this definitely a Fantasy game and yet many of the characters deal with incredibly mundane real world problems like jerk coworkers and bad wages, but i found that endearing in a "this is clearly someone's passion project" kind of way. anyway like i said i'm not a Review Person so i'm going to stop there and probably delete this out of embarrassment later. until then though you should give SLARPG a shot. and congrats to bobby, beatrix, anthony and everyone else you did a good video game

currently in act 4, this has gotta be one of the best games in the mother-inspired indie RPG niche, right? incredibly polished, the art, music, and writing in this are all super great, and even if you do get a bit OP as the game goes on the combat does its job pretty well, at the very least considerably better than most other games in this niche (definitely way more to chew on here strategy-wise compared to like Undertale or OFF or omori).
can only assume this isn't as huge or even on the same level of popularity as even other very tonally similar indies like chicory because of the fact that it's very explicitly furry and queer, which, i mean, seems like a skill issue on the part of a lot of mother-like indie fans
maybe i'll check this out one day but the biggest thing stopping me from playing it is i think it just visually looks Not good. and not like in a "furry stuff" way, just the art styles mesh poorly and i don't like the spritework
