This feels like it took inspiration from the tomb raider franchise, after all you explore Egyptian landscapes and tombs looking for trinkets that advance the story with the occasional combat. The difference here is that the game is far more accurate to Egyptian mythology than those games as it takes place during said mythology as you control the titular sphinx and the titular cursed mummy in two distinct gameplay elements throughout the story.
The story is a masterpiece, not only having accurate depictions of Egyptian deities and even some historical figures (all depicted as anthropomorphised animals despite there being humans in the game) but it tells as unique mystery involving set wanting to bring destruction and chaos to the lands similar to what he did in the last revelation from tomb raider. Tying this story together are two gameplay elements, the primary one being from sphinx who is a young warrior in training who fights monsters while trying to help out the people of the land with his weapons and abilities. The second element comes from the mummy, a cursed prince who sneaks around a castle using stealth to steal valuable items for our main hero. Both protagonists have to solve puzzles in order to progress through their respective stages, some of which were taken from tomb raider but greatly benefit from streamlined controls as there's no tank controls to be found here. The environments are also beautiful to look at, although like most early 00s games, it does have a lot of unused space to showcase how much more technologically advanced its engine is compared to games from the twentieth century. The former does fight boss battles which means that there’s plenty of action to be found here in addition to the numerous puzzles to solve, although these are very strategic boss battles as the fighting itself is a bit basic in his sections. The colour scheme is what really makes these environments special, bringing life to what would otherwise be barren deserts and neglected tombs.
It's a fantastic game that unfortunately didn't receive much attention back in the day, yes, it's basically an updated version of the last revelation, however its way better from its gameplay to presentation to even its lore.
