Shadow of the Colossus

[COMENTÁRIO SOBRE O REMAKE DE 2018]

Exceto pelas melhorias gráficas e uma direção de arte ligeiramente diferente, mais puxada para o fotorrealismo e sombria, é o mesmo jogo de 2005. Acho importante que não tenham mexido nas mecânicas. SotC é um jogo que poderia sofrer com a síndrome do mundo dos video games de ver coisas antigas como defasadas e, nesse caso, o combate ficaria mais fluído, a movimentação menos desengonçada, etc., tirando todo o sentido e essência dessa obra-prima.

Fora isso, achei o conteúdo bônus meio estúpido. Qual é a motivação de completar os time attacks pra ganhar melhorias se o jogo não oferece sequer um nível de dificuldade maior para enfrentar novamente os colossos? Fora que completar todos os time attacks e usar as melhorias implicaria em derrotar todos os 16 colossos umas quatro vezes, pelo menos. Valha-me Deus.

"Shadow of the Colossus" is quite impressive for a Play Station 2 game remaster. In this game, you pretty much get to search and defeat 16 huge creatures known as Colossi. Your arsenal is only made of a bow and sword, but each creature requires completely different strategy. The game felt more like a puzzle/platform game than a Monster Hunter kind of adventure. You don't get to level up, improve your equipment nor learn new skills. You just follow the light reflected by your sword to find the Colossus, keep dying until you find the right strategy, and go for the next one. Wander is alone all the time, there is no plot in between, and each area offers nothing but a couple of collectibles. It's a straightforward and stripped-back game, but at the same time surprisingly deep in the way it lets you approach the enemies. The art direction and the whole world surrounding you are also beautiful in their simplicity. I can definitely see how it influenced "Breath of the Wild".

The only letdowns are the camera and the awful control systems. It might have been the average for Play Station 2, but as this is a PS4 porting I wish they brushed up things a little. World exploration felt a bit lacking as well, as the game arbitrarily decides which surfaces you can climb and which you cannot. I got on top of a lot of hills and mountains not even sure if it was due to a bug or the game actually wanting me to do so.
