Essentially the Resident Evil: Code Veronica[バイオハザード コード:ベロニカ] of the Mega Man[ロックマン] series. Just as Capcom skipped over CV for their Resident Evil[バイオハザード] remakes, so too did they skip Rockman & Forte for Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. I thought the rewind feature in Mega Man Legacy Collection would cripple me when moving into the 16-bit era, but was able to deal with it; instead, it turned out I'd grown too used to the checkpoints system in these ports, which was the real trouble. I tried moving onto Mega Man & Bass[/b] on GBA, which I believe I've beaten before, at least on the Mega route, as I can recall printing a guide from GameFAQs on the screw locations and collecting most, if not all, of them. Somehow, despite being "better" at the NES games than I was as a kid, I'm completely fucked when it comes to MM&B. If anything, the singular issue is that Weapon Energy doesn't restore between lives, meaning if I lose to Burner Man as Bass, attempting to use Ice Wall, I'm fucked over and forced to use Bass's shitty peashooter in my next attempt. It's more economical to just kill myself and start over, if not even waste a life or two on the path to the boss arena.

The good aspects of Mega Man & Bass are held back by the bad. I like how the Data Discs are completely optionable collectibles, but the lack of any other kind of pickup or even E-tanks makes exploring levels feel very vacant. I like how Auto's shop has been expanded but now everything comes back to the shop and it'll take you a long while before you have enough screws to buy a good amount of his wares.
The difficulty on this game is so out of whack, especially if you are playing with Mega Man instead of Bass. The bosses are really hard and frustrating with most of them having long stretches of near invincibility. The graphics are good but the limitations of the SNES hardware show when there's a lot of layering issues.
The music's good but also has that softness that the MM8 soundtrack has.
This game is a weird. I think most Mega Man fans would enjoy it but it's a curiosity.

100%ing this is one of my major achievements as a human being By the way, by now it should be common knowledge that this game is only good if you pick Bass at the start (talking about the SNES version that is, the GBA version is a bad game regardless of the character you play as)
The GBA version is 100% unplayable because of the smaller screen size. Yeah, the later King stages are ridiculously hard. Game sure does animate well for the Super NES though.
Pick Bass if it's your first time playing this one as the game was clearly designed around his abilities. He's very fun to play as and is a nice change of pace after 8 classic Mega Man games. Also avoid the GBA version like the plague.
Same here, with GBA. Except on a real GBA, rather than emulation. Bass was cool at first because I knew him from MMBN, and the multidirectional rapid-fire was cool, but I always found Mega's charge shot more powerful overall. Like, I preferred Bass at first because of his DPS against Green Devil's slime armor, but when I was able to dodge better it felt like charged buster shots were more efficient in the long run.
Okay, trying to play on GBA again for the first time in ages, and I can't see shit. I was expecting the small screen to be an issue, but it's actually the lack of a backlight. I'm impressed I was able to see anything in any game I played on this thing as a kid. Why the hell did I sell my SP???
