The music is great, the boss fights are fun, the animal friends and ability interactions are fun to play around with, and puzzle-solving using the copy abilities is probably my favorite aspect of the whole franchise, so it's nice to see that really emphasized for the first time here. That said, god DAMN are some of the ability puzzles frustrating. And while I disagree with just about every one of jsh357's criticisms, the one that I will back up is that copy abilities are woefully underpowered during boss fights, meaning whenever a boss shows up your best option is to toss away your ability for extra ammo. I did have a decent amount of fun fighting them Dream Land 1 style with just spit attacks, but that does make it feel there's a bit of a clash in design ethos with the rest of the game.
LAST BOSS IS SOO HARD LMAO especially compared to the rest of lvl 7. this game is amazing wow so much fun and such a joy to control :3 the variety of animal powers rlly makes up for the lack of copy abilities. also that green sheen makes me melt a lil its so nostalgic n pretty
This was a cool game. A little bit underrated maybe. I really loved the Rainbow Drop puzzles, especially in World 6 (World 4 puzzle was pretty frustrating though). There are issues for sure but idk, I had a lot of fun with this game
Also hot take: Kine is the best animal friend. Even on land he's fun to platform with, and his Fireball, Spark and Ice moves are some of the best in the game. Plus he has so much personality I can't help but love him
