Hidden Agenda

The Playlink control style combined with the interactive detective story is a cool idea. And the execution is basic but pretty fun. It is more relaxed than if you would play a normal game, so it's 1,5 hours you can lay-back and go with the flow. I found the controls basic, but the actions you controlled did made me wonder what would have happened if I made another choice of performed differently. So I think I will pick this up once of a couple of times more.

The story for the most part was interesting, but the last part went of the rails a bit and also went very fast all of a sudden. Maybe that was because of how the story unfolded in my playthrough, but I found it lacking. It felt a bit like a lot of (mediocre) thriller/detective books: An intriguing premise, execution and story line that keeps building and then the writers thinks "Oh shit I have to finish the book!" and then in very few pages there is an explanation and ending that leaves you underwhelmed.

I look forward to playing it again to see what I think of it after another experience and I'm also interested in more games with Playlink.

Even though this is much more PlayLink gimmick proof of concept/Until Dawn B-side than a full cinematic adventure on its own, I still had my fun with it. The interface naturally suffers from having to control everything with a phone, Jackbox style, and it does cut down on interactivity a lot, it still gets the job done and allows you to check the case files on the fly as the movie plays, a nice touch. The cop story at the heart of it has some nice consequences for choices made and plenty of opportunities to screw up, but while the investigation has some moments of pay-off, I don't know if the killer's motive really made any sense. Again, technical issues really hold this back, though aside from lo-fi character models they are strangely less present than in Man Of Medan. A solid time for 90 minutes.
