Wanna beat ANYTHING?! Hold L1 + Square or Triangle. That not work? Spam your magic until everything is dead, then immediately get it back once you’ve cleared an area. Every. Fucking. Time.
Nothing here has ANY weight to it in terms of combos or combat. Nothing you do in the story matters in the absolute slightest. There is no emphasis whatsoever on the things Kratos does after murdering the Gods that makes me feel as if the Earth is truly within peril. All GOW3 boils down to is: a long one leveled tech demo to show off the ‘mass’ of the game and its ‘super amazing’ in game cutscenes.
"There is no emphasis whatsoever on the things Kratos does after murdering the Gods that makes me feel as if the Earth is truly within peril." Did you even watch the cutscenes? Watching the world get flooded after the sea levels rise, the sun getting blocked out and locusts swarming the earth after you defeat a boss is fantastic; it's more atmospheric and immersive than literally every open-world and "atmosphere" focused video game. It feels like a rhapsody in Video Game form.
Yeah the game and combat are mindlessly easy but that's not the point, mowing everything down is cool and it's mostly fun for the insane campy grotesque spectacle of it
GOW 1, 2, 2018 and Ragnarok, on higher difficulties, are all actually pretty fucking hard. This is the one outlier where every game mode is really easy. I don't know why. Probably because this was the early 2010s where gaming was at its absolute worst when it came to streamlining old franchises for broader appeal. But it made for it in spectacle.
