Dreamscaper is a 2021 roguelike video game developed by Afterburner studios. In this game you play the role of a girl named Cassidy, who moves from Backhill, a town of 300 people to Red Haven, a big city with big dreams. Every time she sleeps, she feels vivid dreams, almost like if they are real.
Each run is split into a day - theres the day cycle, and the night. During the day cycle you can upgrade your stats and "Mentors" that will help you boost a certain stat (example: critical damage with bruce). During the night cycle it's all about exploring the dreamscape and exploring room by room until you get to the boss of each stage.
You have four attacks: Your primary (melee), secondary (ranged), and two lucid attack slots (basically special attacks like a bunch of thunder or summoning a dragon). In addition, you also have a shield that can be used to parry or block attacks.
Cassidy can choose her loadout via the dream journal. My favourite would be the megaton stingers, optic beams and crystal barrier since i do not prefer to use the shield at all.
If you manage to beat Dreamscaper, you'll unlock a new mode called "nightmare mode". Each run is based on an intensity rating similar to the pact of punishment from hades. This increases the floor sizes, speed of enemies, damage you recieve, etc.
I wish the story would have been brought out just a bit more as once you level up your mentors like Bruce, there's nothing you really do besides talk to them once in a while. I wish they would give quests and other things similar to how athena and other maxed out relationships in hades.
Bosses are really nice, but they get easy after a while. The nightmare mode really does make it feel difficult. Lucid mode is also a nice touch for those who are struggling to beat the game.
The conversations between you and your friends however are long to sit through, so i'd recommend they would shorten it down a bit.
Overall: 65/100
