You die, you live
Death and Taxes is a game with a promising idea, but fails to make the most out of it. Very similar in gameplay mechanics to Papers Please, but more blunt about its theme. You play as a grim reaper, that essencially as a burocratic job of picking who gets to die in a given date, as you are given a few candidates and your boss instructions each day. You can choose to follow those intructions or not, and that falls back into the game's ending. Through your smartphone you get to find out how killing or saving people affect the world the next day, and thats essencial as otherwise the game feels very disconnected from your consequences.

I cant quite make what the game is trying, because the execution is really shabby. You get this very annoying layer of ironic dialogue that you have at the end of the day with your boss, and thats not to mention the highly annoying pirate character that you can buy optional stuff from (mostly cosmetic). The game doesnt feel like your actions are having much impact, as your boss either lightly sculds you or politly says good job at the end of each day. This is on purpose and tied to the narrative of the game, which again hits like a wet paper because nothing feels consequencial in this game.

Lots of flaws with this one, and really doesnt even challenge Papers Please for its place as the burocratic sim king.
