A filosofia maximalista do design de Dark Souls II prejudica o jogo, é inegável. Bosses demais e poucos memoráveis, excesso de “salas-armadilha”, muitas invasões e coisinhas secretas que não são nada inspiradas ou prazerosas de explorar (Frigid Outskirts, alguém?).
Em relação ao antecessor, muita elegância é perdida. Mas isso não o torna ruim. A decepção à época do lançamento é compreensível, mas a rejeição de alguns por esse jogo é um completo exagero.
O gameplay segue muito sólido e, eu diria, até mais divertido que o do primeiro jogo - ainda que não tão polido. Há vários cenários incríveis, uma profundidade enorme de builds possíveis, ótimo design de inimigos e de fases, enfim.
Dark Souls II é um jogo imperfeito, mas que só é visto sob esse prisma porque seu antecessor é uma das melhores e mais definitivas experiências de seu tempo.

I like games that are trying to kill the player. Im not a masochist, or a gatekeeper, or an elitist (well, kinda), I just like games I have to overcome, because they are inatly hostile. That one part, the overcoming, is important; its not an invincible challenge, but one that resists consumption.
Dark Souls 2, Scholor of the First Sin, might be my favorite game thats trying to kill the player, and overcoming it is an experience that is epic in scope. Most things that frustrate general audiences, I like. The ambushes can almost all be spotted, but they are designed to get you. Traps are traps. Enemy placement borders on mean.
Yeah, thats the good stuff. Like a bat flying right over an instant death pit in an NES game.
Add to that, it feels more personal than the other games. DS1 is more atmospheric, but DS2 hits different, as far as narrative immersion.

the essential DS2 experience, the difficulty is fixed, graphics a bit better, bug fixes, etc. the setting of this game is nice and i do find majula to be a beautiful hub location. theres a lot of bosses in here, some memorable, some not. the combat feels good and the gameplay is rewarding. a good souls game.

Not wrong, but it is just as much Dark Souls III 2. (and I'd say moreso coz entire cut areas such as "God's Grave" and various enemies from DS3 were repurposed for Elden Ring).
don't skip this game, it is worth playing for the story, lore and fantastic DLC alone, but it is certainly extremely flawed with many horrible mechanics and design elements, without question the weakest of Fromsoft's modern lineup.
The best way to play this game is to grab a second Large Club on NG+ and pump up all your stats to be able to power stance them. Upgrade them to the max and L2 all day long. Many good memories of literally pancaking people into the ground at the Iron Keep Bridge.
This game takes all the reasons I didn't like dark souls 1 for and makes them 10 times worse. Like holy shit I ain't trying to slog through 14 katana knights just to go fight a mid ass boss.
This game is massive in scope. I love the environments and I really love how much variety it gave you as far as builds. It felt like an adventure in the same way ER does and the combat is definitely better than DS.
Also it kinda got shit on for the level design not being interconnected but idk the actual levels here (minus black gulch which is actually awful) are up to par with some of my favourites in the series.
