Crown of the Sunken King
this one might be my least fav as i was not a fan of the setting at all. the air platform based almost egyptian looking arenas were honestly kind of annoying to navigate and was not very impressive over all. shulva sanctum city is sort of impressive visually, but navigating it felt like a pain. as for the new items or weapons, well honestly i forget so probably wasn't that important. there is some annoying enemy placement that can knock you off the map, shit like that is just annoying. the bosses seemed pretty mindless, only a few attempts. except maybe the slumbering dragon, that was a exciting and challenging fight. the other boss fight is a 3 way battle between 3 humans and its actually really fun, i did it coop might be a lot harder solo.

I remember hearing about Dark Souls II getting DLC announced and I was excited. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the core game, I enjoyed playing it and was looking forward to see what this had to offer because more Dark Souls is always better. This DLC was the first released and I remember exactly the day it came out, I remember getting it on a Friday night and playing it, and the DLC is a lot different than the core game. Its basically an underground city where you use a lot of arrows to solve puzzles that raise buildings up and open gates and the DLC is sort of broken into 2 parts. The first part you are kind of outside and using the buildings as platforms, the second you go inside a temple and fight off ghost enemies and have to disable a few traps. At the end of the temple you face 2 of the DLC's bosses back to back.
The first boss is a mage who summons enemies or Velstadt, most of her attacks are ranged magic and if she doesn't summon Velstadt she isn't too difficult. The other boss is a dragon who can inflict toxic on you. Sinh is pretty challenging and is actually a solid fight, not great but he provides a fair challenge and is a huge improvement over the dragon fight in the main game. The 3rd boss is a fight against 3 NPCs a archer, strength guy, and a katana guy. This boss is just annoying and requires you to run around the arena while sneaking in cheap hits. Outside the bosses the DLC is okay, the new enemies don't stand out too much and feel a bit generic, and the DLC relies a bit heavy on using your bow and arrow to hit switches which is kind of annoying to switch between. I did somewhat like the design but its a bit short and only offers 2 new bosses. I enjoyed the DLC, but the other ones offered more and had more bosses and more interesting enemies. This DLC has some annoyances and poorly designed areas and the boss fights really aren't good enough for it to be high up there.

it is not even funny how much this DLC shits on the Grave of Saints->Gutter->Gulch path in the DS2 base game. if you replaced that path outright with Shulva I think many opinions on DS2 would be changed
Still reckon this DLC had the most interesting ideas for level design of all the DS2 DLCs. What altertide0 reductively calls "gimmicks" are actually novel ideas for challenge, not just for this game, but the whole series. The platforming sections were actually the best before Elden Ring came along and the sections with the ghost soldiers was also a cool idea, but as is usual with DS2 in general it isn't always best implemented.
Also for what it's worth, Sinh actually isn't that bad of a dragon fight for the series, so long he isn't constantly flying.
