I don't think I've seen any other game make this extensive and inventive use of sprite manipulations (scaling, distorting, rotating, etc.) to animate. It's kinda mind-blowing. I can't say enough good things about this game.
It's a perfect frenetic-action game. The only flaw you could give it is the sheer rigidness in the patterns, meaning exact play is expected, so if you understand the dance you will always succeed and have little risk for failure. Pulling off a flawless run is like no other, and I find the game mixes up its action sequences just enough with branching paths/large scale fights that there is always reason to return.
