I had to check this game out when it was first released, I haven't touched Busby 3d since I was a little child and yet I still have vivid memories of how awful that game was, so I had to see what a modern rendition of this 90s mascot looked like. I was somewhat disappointed mainly because by all accounts it's a decent if forgettable experience.
Unlike other Busby games which appear to be based on sonic the hedgehog titles, this one has a manageable speed which is good because it allows you to explore these levels without the risk of running off a platform due to Busby’s momentum he has from running around. He's also finally able to defend himself as he now has a pounce ability to use against enemies as opposed to having to jump on them and hope that the collision detection was on your side in the event, not that would be an issue here as the collision detection is spot on throughout the game. There's also the option to control how irritating busy is by adjusting how frequently he talks in game; this may not seem like much if you haven't played his other games (particularly Busby 3d) but trust me it is. The levels themselves are pretty standard, nothing too outrageous either way as they allow for Busby to utilise his move set without issues but are bland as a result. The same can be said for the bosses which aren't too complicated like they've historically been in the franchise. All of this to say that this is why I'm so disappointed in this game, it's boringly competent which isn't something I want from such an infamous video game character. Either give me something on the level of vintage Spyro or tomb raider or give me something infamously terrible like its 3d entry from the 90s so I can use it to torture my social circles (I still like to impersonate Busby’s voice from the 3d entry from time to time.)
It's a novelty game for sure, only I can't say is bad as it works fine but lacks any personality to be among the greats of gaming history.
