art of rally continues the Funselektor Labs trend of being obtuse to beginners and having a questionable approach to onboarding said beginners (this time it's a long and repetitive campaign structure). It also has a couple of issues that I consider serious - namely the odd TAA and pop-in artifacts and the absence of a proper replay system with saving/sharing functionality.
That being said, after having spent hundreds of hours in it I can't deny that art of rally is now my favorite driving game. The immaculate art style inspired by The Witness makes stringing time attack runs together an absolute pleasure, and the incredibly clean UI by Jamie Churchman of Mini Metro together with various quality-of-life features bring the game that much closer to perfection. Plus, the post-launch support has been invaluable - case in point, the most recent location as of this writing (Indonesia) is my current favorite, being gorgeous and featuring quite a few fun courses.
It may not be the most approachable game considering its cuddly exterior, but after putting in the time and getting over that hump art of rally reveals itself as the purely delightful driving experience it truly is.

Linking When you mention an album, artist, film, game, label, etc - it's recommended to link to the item the first time you mention it. Doing so will make it easier to search for your post and give it more visibility. To link an item, use the search box above, or find the shortcut that appears on the page that you want to link. You can customize the link name of shortcuts by using the format [Artist12345,Custom Name].
The ability to save/load replays and a greater degree of control over playback
The ability to view replays from the player's POV complete with inputs
More granular control over draw distance
More comprehensive online features - the current idea works as a way to get players to engage with the actual rally format post-campaign but the daily/weekly structure is far too restrictive to engage with consistently
Some way to set up custom split markers
Regarding the soundtrack, I mostly ignored it, though I was surprised the artist Tatreal was previously known to me from his work on YouTube videos. It's good to see him land a nice gig like this.

Yeah, this game doesn't explain itself much. You're just expected to either sink or swim. The default assists are tuned very oddly too. I recommend to anyone who's struggling to turn down stability control and countersteer multiplier, turn up throttle sensitivity (and use the entire trigger!) and fiddle with camera settings until it's comfortable. Very fun when you get in the zone.
And at least it's more approachable than Dirt Rally - you don't need to learn and quickly react to co-driver callouts because the camera's perspective makes them unnecessary
