Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (the original name of this game) was a groundbreaking game. Released in 2001, it had unparalleled scale. The map was huge, every inch was exploreable, there were tons of vehicles, weapons, and units. The built-in map maker was easy enough to use, so custom missions weren't too hard to make. The campaign had plenty of levels if you weren't interested in making your own. It's the first game I'm aware of that let you move you head independently from your body! Top class immersion.
That said, there's no reason to play this today. No one plays it, so there's little to no online community. Mechanicaly it's aged poorly. It's full of pathing and scripting errors. The ARMA series has built on this foundation and has surpassed it in every way. Unless you want a history lesson, there's no point in getting this.
