Consider any ratings/rankings to be what I consider "favorites" as opposed to "greatest" and I try to be sure to distinguish as such whenever necessary. Cultural and/or historical significance as well as nostalgia will at times bump a rating up a half star.
★★★★★. Five stars. A perfect (or very near perfect) album that demands complete listening from the first to final track with each listen.
★★★★½. Four and a half stars. Incredible. A must hear with repeated listens required. A skippable track or two but otherwise a great listen from front to back.
★★★★. Four stars. Great with few mishaps. The highs very much outweigh the average or sub-par, yet reasons preventing it from being a half star or full star higher are obvious.
★★★½. Three and a half stars. Very solid. A definite listen for fans of the artist/style in particular, but glaring issues prevent it from being considered great.
★★★. Three stars. Above average/good with some significant moments, but obvious filler. Not mandatory listening but not offensive in any way.
★★½. Two and a half stars. Truly average. The pros equal the cons. Just enjoyable enough to be considered bad, but nothing to demand replay.
★★. Two stars. Below average with few redeemable qualities. A track of two of enjoyment can be highlighted but otherwise no reason to revisit.
★. One star. No, or very few, enjoyable moments, and a struggle to listen to in its entirety (if finished at all).
