Yeah, it's just good, gory death metal from when that Floridian sound was still kinda trying to find itself. The demos are a bit more raw and they're quality too.

Right on, good luck with that interview.

Yeah, in some respects With Fear... is kinda black metal-esque WRT "atmosphere"/emotional tone. Dawn's first album is the one I always find to be the most apt comparison, albeit they're still quite different albums overall. (one's mournful & elegiac, the other's more stormy & contemplative) There's a real sense of melodic mastery present because they do such a fantastic job building & developing their riffs melodically, so it feels like the song's going somewhere while still being built around a core set of "themes" that offer insight of sorts.

I didn't catch the Eucharist comparison when I heard Sweven but that's a really good call. I think I mentioned it in my review (it's been a while) but the album it reminded of was a better version of Afflicted's Prodigal Sun, subtly proggy in scope without as many of the kinks that Afflicted had.

It's worth hearing, but it's also super frustrating a lot of the time. They were kinda forerunners to those psychedelia death metal bands, but their writing was really sloppy and they couldn't put it together consistently. There's still a few really good tunes on it though, this being one of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VODT60HP1AU

The EoS comparison is really interesting, now that you've mentioned it - a lot of Swano's projects have that vibe of "if death metal/melodeath happened in the 70s" (of course with then-modern production values), and so a lot of Prodigal Sun comes across as a related take on the concept.

But yeah, nifty album. Frustrating, but it's rarely boring if nothing else.

I'm still really upset that Lost Paradise gets such a bad rep.
