In general, the unpredictability of White Light/White Heat makes it into a classic. Who else would write songs like "Sister Ray" & "The Gift"? You also have to give points to the VU for doing that stuff in 1968, of all things. They really broke a ton of boundaries with White Light/White Heat, and the general ugliness of the music was VERY different from the Beatles & the Stones.

I haven't heard Deceit in a long time, but I remember liking it. I think that parts of Deceit confused me, though. Deceit was a bit....out there, if you know what I mean.

Good question. I guess that it all started when I was in middle school. I was watching FOX and I saw an advertisement that featured the song "Resistance" by Muse. I LOVED that song, and I wanted to know more about who made that song. I became a fan of Muse from that commercial, and it led to me being the guy that I am now. By the time that I turned 19, I was already a big fan of 80s alternative/punk bands (i.e. The Cure, Dead Kennedys, Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Husker Du) and I was a fan of 70s post-punk, as well.

I'm a fairly big fan of NYHC actually, though of course punk music scenes like that do sorta become sacred cows and overly-glorified, then eventually commodified. So there is an unappealing element to it with all the hype flying around, but then I'd consider a lot of NYHC stuff to be amongst my favourite punk stuff generally. So many great bands - my two favourites are Side by Side and Straight Ahead, other good ones include Alone in a Crowd, Youth Defense League, Crippled Youth, The Mob, and for a very early one that nobody knows, Savage Circle. I still haven't got round to hearing all the well known stuff like Gorilla Biscuits yet! And the same goes for Sheer Terror. Good song though.

I saw that you gave a 3.5/5 to Radiohead's OK Computer. Just curious, but what did you dislike about it?

I see. I still disagree with your thoughts on Slowdive, but it's good to hear that you like theme more. You're right, Slowdive does have some really nice guitar sounds.

It's pretty cool that you like Belle and Sebastian, since I like them a lot too. If You're Feeling Sinister is excellent, and it's by far one of the best albums of the 90s, in my book. I like Tigermilk a lot, as well.

Btw, is there a reason as to why you dislike shoegaze so much? Based on your ratings & reviews, it seems like you consider shoegaze to be the worst thing ever.
