Also been playing a lot of games, getting back into reading proper with William Gibson, and checking out the streaming service Filmstruck.
As far as joy division goes, we should all be forever indebted to them because they *are* responsible for some of the most powerful post-punk tracks out there, my personal favorite, and probably one of my top 10 or 20 favorite songs ever, Atmosphere. and I do like Unknown Pleasures. It's a force to be reckoned with in terms of its atmosphere, and I do love the general sound of it, but that said, the songs themselves, particularly on the b side, feel pretty limp and kind of unfinished to me. i have a similar problem with another highly acclaimed goth classic: depeche mode's violator. everything about that record seems like it'd be an obvious addition to my personal canon of favorites, and i love the general sound/production/execution of tone, but the songs just feel weak, anemic, like they're barely standing on rushed and absent-mindedly structured foundations. as such, i can't help but feel a vaguely frustrated boredom with them. but obviously, i'm in the overwhelming minority here it seems, so maybe i'll be eating my words when i give them more attempts in the future.
I've actually been getting into The Replacement's Tim, "Swingin Party" is such a fantastic song.
yeah, it's great!
