Music is my drug. I want to hear the most unique, innovative, and creative artists from every genre. I want to hear every emotion and state of mind in vocal or instrumental form as long as it's genuine.
Wow, I couldn't disagree more with your review of the new Bon Iver. In fact, I would argue there's MORE feel and emotion than in For Emma. Honestly, I couldn't name one song on that album that I didn't like, and this is coming from someone who thought that For Emma was a tad overrated.
I rather think the pop elements really made Justin's music more emotional. I mean, I can think of maybe 2 or 3 songs from For Emma that I would ever come back to (the title track being the main one). With the new one, it's that pop-aesthetic and ambiance that keeps drawing me back in. Everytime I listened to it, I started loving it more and more and I would probably say that it's my top album of 2011 so far. It has more poppy song-writing but I wouldn't say that it's because he's popular, more just because he's grown as an artist since his first album where had arguably zero pop-aesthetic and just wrote a bunch of boring indie folk tunes inside an isolated cabin. I dunno. Agree to disagree I guess. :D
Well, I actually like Benji more than what I've heard from previous SKM albums, but overall I'm just not a big fan of Mark Kozelek's music, although I did sort of enjoy the album he put last year with Jimmy LaValle.
