I think the important thing to do is stay focused. It's easy to get distracted while listening to music and let it just be "background music". As a music lover yourself, I'm sure you understand how that disrespects the art form.
Of course there are plenty of times when we have background music, like in a social setting, but when we audiophiles are bending our critical faculties towards an album, we should give it our complete attention.
Some of the most profound musical moments of my life were when I turn off all the lights, lie on my bed with my eyes closed, put on my headphones, and just ... listen! :)
Indeed. That's why I move what I'm rating/reviewing to my portable mp3 player and listen to it on headphones away from the PC. My wife got me a stylish little notebook and pen specifically for jotting down notes about the music I'm listening to!
Hi, thanks for the comment/suggestion on my list! Adding ratings is definitely something I'd be up for eventually. The list is already fairly big and I'm trying to keep on top of updating existing entries along with adding new ones when the time comes. It will take awhile but I'll probably add ratings in chunks if/when I get around to it.
Just stopping by again to say that ratings are now being added to that list. There's definitely a lot to go still but some artists have a huge amount of releases so I'm going to do a chunk at a time until it's updated in full. Thanks again for the suggestion!
I respect The Beatles greatly, and even listen to a couple of their records on occasion (Rubber Soul and Magical Mystery Tour are my two favorites). It's just that I don't really go out off my way for them.
Yeah I feel like nowadays it's sort of become cool to hate on groups like the Doors which I've never really understood, pretending to dislike things because they are considered a classic seems dumb. Strange Days is such a dark and killer record.
