I love music, almost literally all kinds, from ambient to brutal death metal and everything in between.
Because I like music in general, I generally find more that I like than dislike from any given album, so my ratings tend to be somewhat higher than the average music fan's. My ratings system generally means:
5 stars - an album of superb quality or tremendous significance to me personally
4.5 stars - a personal favorite album that I enjoy listening to a great deal, I will typically listen to something from this album several times a year, nevertheless, the quality or personal significance is not quite high enough to merit 5 stars yet
4.0 - a very solid album - not a personal favorite, but worth coming back to, and with time may become a 4.5 star album
3.5 - an enjoyable album, worth a few plays
3.0 - an inconsistent album which has some cool moments and thus might be worth a play or two, but not much more
2.5 - a mediocre album, perhaps worth hearing for fans of the genre or artist, but otherwise not worth the effort
2.0 and 1.5 - music that isn't absolutely awful, but upsets me in some way, and thus isn't something worth spending time with
1.0 and 0.5 - there is very little music I've heard that is this bad, and I am generous with my ratings, so music this poor should be avoided by all
