I've branched out a lot in the past year, listening to more electronic music, more country and traditional folk (old wax recordings of slaves and hillbillies), more pure pop stuff too. Was slacking a bit on my hip-hop so I'm really diving into that genre again, listening to a lot of good stuff. More than anything else just digging into the Beastie Boys catalogue, always liked them but MCA's death reminded me I should have paid more attention to their work when he was alive.
My fav stuff are the more chill, low-key subgenres of house music. Microhouse (Isolee, Ricardo Villalobos, Nicolas Jaar), deep house (Moodymann, Luomo), ambient techno (Voices from the Lake)... tons of neat stuff going on. As for the Beasties, I seem to remember you liking a bit of hip-hop, so I think you'd like their work as producers, but it might be trickier for you to get into their tag-team, snotty rhyming. Recommend you try Paul's Boutique and maybe Ill Communication, see what you think.
