Illusion of Gaia (or Illusion of Time, as it was called here in the UK for some reason) is really good too. I think if you like Terranigma, you'll probably dig it. I just really liked the simultaneous underworld exploration/overworld reconstruction concept in Soul Blazer: still seems pretty unique to me.

Thanks for the add man, saw your profile on my compatibility list and was pleasantly surprised at our mutual tastes. I see that you like Debussy; you might also enjoy the works of Franz Liszt (for some reason, he's of ill repute among the classicists).

Regarding Liszt, pretty much anything he does on the piano is fantastic whether it is the virtuoso exuberance of his early works to his darkly complex later years.

I've heard Cecil Taylor's Unit Structures awhile back and thought it to be a "difficult" listen, which is strange because I love both the Free Jazz and Ascension albums by Coleman and Coltrane respectively. How does Conquistador compare?

Sounds promising, and yeah, I'll have to relisten to that Unit Structures one of these days.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Liszt is also one of the best at making tone poems, or one-movement symphonies, not to mention his tripartite Faust Symphony that can contend with the likes of Beethoven.

    Wagner is implied. ;)

Glad to here that you enjoyed it; like you said, very innovative and ahead of its time. Les Preludes (Fricsay as conductor) and Hunnenschlacht are also worth looking into.

Helios, how are things? Went through Conquistadors and found that I did enjoy it moreso than US, however his style of free jazz still leaves me with a somewhat "cold" impression in between the brief moments of clarity, something that just falls short of Coleman's primal dithyrambs and Coltrane's spiritual radiance. idk something about Taylor's sound just doesn't seem to click with me...

That's very impressive, you're the second scientist rymer that I've met, best of luck to you. Is there a final dissertation as well?

I have the Trout Quintet and the Death and the Maiden Quartet from Schubert. He has a very unique style, almost whimsically dialogic, by which people can't help but be charmed. He was also influenced by Beethoven as one can hear in his later symphonies; an excellent, well-rounded composer.

I know that I've barely scratched the surface for Schubert so I'll definitely keep the suggestion in mind, thanks.

Haha, I can't even begin to fathom what your research would be like... science and I have parted ways in high school when I started chemistry (stoichiometry, or however the heck you spell it, was the final nail in the coffin for me) and so I've decided to pursue English/literature/teaching of all things.
