No, not too tortuous, I keep trying with jazz but it comes back to the same old issues - I need meaning beyond the music I guess. Saying that, even Mingus hasn't done it for me so maybe I've no hope...

By the way, the Thai one was nice, when I was in Chiang Mai the local bands I heard mostly played the blues...

I have not heard that Grimes album actually, I only know one song from it (I think it's "Genesis"), but it sounded like something that's as far from your tastes as you can get (turns out I was right, haha!) I have a friend who used to live there and it sounded really nice. Minnesota is just very cold and very hot but we have lots of scandinavian people. But sometimes I wish I could live in norway ya know.
