Hey farty. I just got a copy of Laura Nyro's First Songs and it sounds way better than the UK CD of More Than a New Discovery. It seems it's all the same recordings just in a different order. It was remastered in Japan a few years ago.
Sorry I am not on Facebook any more, I miss chatting with you!
hey kronz! oh my....i just saw a vinyl copy of First Songs, for some weird reason, i decided to give it a miss at that very moment, now that u r talking about it, i might have to go back to the record store and look for it again!
and yes, i am into vinyls since last year's december...
I am not sure if the vinyl versions of First Songs are good-sounding, honestly. But they might be better than the poor sounding Revola CD. The version I found was the 2008 Japanese CD remaster. It still sounds a lot lower quality than the recordings she made at Columbia but it doesn't distort, at least. My main issue with it is that for no good reason all 12 songs are in the wrong order.
Yes...not all old pressings vinyls are gd sounding. Yeah my reserve for not getting first songs is mainly because of the tracks order doesn't make sense to me since I am so used to the original More than a new discovery.
It would be great if I can find a 60s pressing of More than a new discovery released under Verve, old jazz label like Verve should be a safe bet for gd quality (including if it's a decent copy)
