maybe the internet culture has just over-saturated everybody with distractions - wasn't trout mask replica made in a situation of near poverty isolated from the world ('living on beans' - maybe a myth)...
the biggest thing i notice is the divide between the pop world and the alternative world now. even in the early 90s when slint was ignored, you had r.e.m. and nirvana in the charts. in the 70s you turn on the tv and see johnny rotten, in the 90s kurt cobain, now... drake?
the internet age is a corporate age, a smooth age... obsessed with high-fashion, verging on aesthetic fascism
maybe a new space age is around the corner? i'm hoping...
