I don't try to be harsh, in fact I find myself re-listening to a lot of albums, trying to convince myself to give them a higher rating/see what other people see in them. But, whenever I'm debating to myself what to give an album (like "Should I give this album 3.5 or 3 stars?"), I always go for the lower rating.

I don't really have any preferences towards a genre (anymore anyways...I think), I just listen to what I think may be interesting.

Music Rating Breakdown:
-Degrees of Excellence-
★★★★★ - An important album for developing my musical taste and also emotionally. Every time I listen to these albums I think something along the lines of "this is perfect." Even if it has flaws (which they probably do, in their own ways), I've come to love those flaws for whatever reason. I come back to listen to these album like crazy at some time.

★★★★1/2 - Fantastic tracks all around (and the paragraph above), but I feel it's missing something, or has a slight dip in quality somewhere. I would highly recommend most of these albums to people.

★★★★ - Solid all around. No BAD songs, but maybe some mediocre ones that don't meet the quality of the rest of the album. Albums here will obviously be among the year's best. (Imo, of course.)

★★★1/2 - Has great songs, but a distinct sag in quality somewhere, minor sequencing/cohesiveness issues.

-Degrees of Mediocrity-
★★★ - It's good-That's why it says good on my rating system, but nothing really blows me away. Sometimes it only has a few good songs, but the rest is rather bland. Or it's consistently good but not GREAT. These albums feel lightweight to me; they still get played moderately.

★★1/2 - Generally nothing mind-blowing, but nothing rather bad, either. I'll usually feel that there's serious cohesiveness and quality control issues bringing the album down. Maybe I just find the album mundane all around.

-Degrees of Incompetence-
★★ - Disappointment. Glariing issues that cripple my enjoyment of the album.

★1/2 - There's very little redeemable about these albums to me. Maybe one or two good songs and the rest isn't very good.

★ - Painful. Basically I would be like "Man, that just not my cup of tea," and then the artist would put piss in my cup instead.

1/2 - These albums could make a good case for proving that the quality of music is objective.
